INTERCONTINENTAL BANK PLC COVENANT UNIVERSITY BRANCH. NIGERIA

 

SCOPE:

To power an ATM machine with ratings 200w-350w 220Vac. Included in the installation are security lights and installation lights.


LIMITATIONS:

Site had very minimal space for solar visibility, much shadow from trees and inability to construct panel rack due to regulations from university authorities. IDEASDOT had to construct special racks which allowed for maximum solar wattage for the available space.

 

SITE SPECIFICATION AND INSTALLATION:

24HRS OPERATION AT AVERAGE 300W (ONE ATM MACHINE AND LIGHTINGS)

220Vac. TOTAL DAILY POWER REQUIRED: 24X300= 7200W

FOR 2 DAYS AUTONOMY: BATTERY POWER = 12V X 200AH LESS 30%= 1680W/BATTERY
7200W/1680W= 4.3 BATTERIES/DAY FOR 3 DAYS AUTONOMY. 12 BATTERIES NEEDED
SOLAR PANEL TO CHARGE 7200W IN A DAY; CHARGING 48V 200AH BATTERIES (3 GROUPS)

120wp x 8 = 960w to charge each group of batteries = minimum charge current of 15-18A/hr.

For 3 groups; 24 x 120wp.
3kva telecoms inverter/UPS
48v40a dual load charge controller
Installation allowed for 0.7 overall system efficiency factor.


This ATM project has been named one of the wonders of the university because its one of its kind, in recent times solar energy has been implemented in various areas such as streetlighting projects, traffic controls and garden lights but never been seen with ATM machines.

 

Ideasdot proffered solution to the inadequate power issues required to power a 24hrs ATM machine at Covenant University, using the recent technology in solar energy convertion/generation and implementation ideasdot was able to provide a solution that provided the ATM machine with an autonomy of 48hrs without charging with the local grid power.


Equipment:

Ideasdot carried out the installation using top of the line standard equipment like deep cycle LED batteries, prolific solar arrays and charge controllers that has been tested and confirmed to withstand the test of time.
